WHAT DO WE DO

Moskitofilm is a film company that focuses mainly on arthouse films and documentaries with a raw edge, unafraid to explore the pure and dark sides of life. Founded by Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth, who together have more than 30 years of experience in the film industry, Moskitofilm produces films from cult classics to modern masterpieces. The company has directed, cinematographed, produced, edited, and written many films that have become part of the collection of the Dutch EYE Film Institute.

Their films include "Kat en Muis" (2015), a surreal drama about a young girl who becomes aware of a painful family history after her aunt's death, and "Vlees" (2010), an absurdist and at times film noir-esque low-budget production about a butcher with perverse sexual fantasies and the consequences that ensue. Their film "Crepuscule" (2009) follows the life of a young woman in the big city who is timid on the streets but blossoms in her home. Moskitofilm is not afraid to explore controversial topics and push the boundaries of conventional filmmaking.Nieuwe alinea

FEATURE FILMS

These six Dutch feature films, spanning from 1994 to 2024, traverse a spectrum of genres and narratives.

Each film invites the audience into distinctly different worlds — from the surrealistic drama of 'Cat and Mouse', where young Belle grapples with her painful past, to the darkly comic contours of 'Meat', where a butcher's bizarre fantasies lead to an unexpected and grim end.

'Crepuscule' contrasts the lonely existence of a young woman in the bustling city with her vibrant private life.

Meanwhile, 'Lulu' ensnares viewers in a web of seduction, as the enigmatic Lulu captivates a wealthy publisher and those closest to him.

Moskitofilm's portfolio is a showcase of the company's drive and focus to navigate complex characters and themes with a bold and artful approach.

SHORT MOVIES

"Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth have crafted an evocative collection of short films and documentaries that are as visually arresting as they are emotionally resonant. Their journey began with ‘Adress to the Landscape' in 1985, a film inspired by a story of Franz Kafka, Their exploration of everyday poetics is evident in ‘On Sunday' from 1987, a 35mm homage to the color and rhythm of Sundays. In 'Movimenti Cantabili' (1988), they collaborated with mime artist Will Spoor to weave a tapestry of silent expression, while ‘A Day Lasting a Thousand Years' (1989), created in partnership with painter Geurt van Dijk, infuses the canvas of film with the strokes of visual artistry. The stark monochrome of 'Der Feldzug' (1993), a collaboration with artist Armando, delves into the haunting themes of war and memory.

DOCUMENTARY

Moskitofilm's documentary series, spanning several decades from 1985 to 2017, paints a rich tapestry of artistic expression and exploration. Their journey begins with 'Imploded Cube' (1985), a 16mm exploration of sculptor Ewerdt Hilgemann's work, followed by 'Maasbeeld' (1986) and 'Zonder Titel' (1987), both delving into Auke de Vries' sculptural universe. 'Time Seeking Circles' (1987) showcases Barbara van Loon's art project, capturing the essence of ephemeral art. The multifaceted artist Armando is the subject of 'Armando – schrijver/schilder/beeldhouwer/violist/akteur' (1990) and 'Armando, 20 jaar Berlijn' (1999), films that portray his artistic journey across mediums and cities. 'Lijn, Ruimte, Illusie' (1992) peers into Marijke de Goeij's artistic vision, while 'Verborgen Zone' (1997) reveals the architectural marvels of Ashok Bhalotra. 'Sculptures' (2000) is a video exploration of Bert van Loo's work, and 'Bomen' (2001) forms part of an exhibition at the Armando Museum. The documentary 'Carmen' (2003), a part of the opera, and 'New Babylon de Constant' (2005), about painter Constant, are testaments to their ability to blend visual art with music and storytelling. 'Klankstollingen' (2006) and 'Lemniscaat' (2008) focus on the composers Jakob van Domselaer and Simeon ten Holt, respectively. Their work culminates in 'Pjotr Muller – Boek voor Mo' (2017), a tribute to sculptor Pjotr Muller. This portfolio, including commissioned works like 'Maasproject' (1989) and 'Beelden van Vernieuwing' (1990), showcases Moskitofilm's profound engagement with the artistic and cultural zeitgeist, solidifying their place as chroniclers of the arts through film
